1ST...MODERN DAY HILTON HEAD ISLAND. 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm. Learn how the building of a bridge in 1956 changed Hilton Head from a sleepy, semi-isolated, rural island to a destination resort with over 35,000 full-time residents. Visit Jarvis Creek at the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn and learn about the life cycle and importance of the Atlantic Blue Crab with a Museum educator. 2ND...BUTTERFLY DISCOVERY. 10:00 am - 11:00 am. Take a guided tour, with a Coastal Discovery Museum educa- tor through the Karen Wertheimer Butterfly Enclosure to get up close and personal with nativebutterflies. 12TH...FLAG DAY FESTIVAL. The stars and stripes are in the spotlight at this family-friendly festival in the tradition of an old county fair. 14TH THROUGH 18TH...“SAIL INTO SUMMER” - HILTON HEAD ISLAND RECREATION CENTER. All Day Summer Camp. Helps your child develop character, learn valuable life skills, make new friends and discover new interests. Daily activities include arts & crafts, swimming and games. Morning and afternoon round-up is the perfect time for campers to get energized with a fun-fi lled, action-packed day of camp activities. Campers will participate in theatrical activities including skits, improvisation, karaoke, charades, storytelling, puppetry, and more. Weekly fi eld trips based on the theme. Please bring lunch, swimsuit and a towel. Two snacks are provided throughout the day. Ages 4-13. 7:30 am- 6:00 pm. Fee per week including most fi eld trips.


15TH...BIRDING AT HONEY HORN. Join an experienced bird watcher as you walk through Salt Marsh, Maritime Forest and open fi elds at the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn. Depending on the time of year, you might see a Summer Tanager, Eastern Kingbird, Painted Bunting, Yellowbellied Sapsucker, Egrets, and many, many others. Fee per person and you must be 12 years of age to participate. Reservations are required by calling 843-689-6767 ext 223.


17TH...WATER FUN NIGHT. 4:30 pm - 7:00 pm. Shelter Cove Community Park. 39 Shelter Cove Lane. Cool off this Summer & enjoy water slides and slip and slides! Concessions will be available. For more information, please call the Island Recreation Association at 843-681-7273.


18TH...USCB LUNCH WITH AUTHOR SPECIAL - DOROTHEA BENTON FRANK. 12:00 pm - 2:30 pm. Dorothea Benton Frank will debut her new summertime novel, Lowcountry Summer, at the USCB Lunch With Author Special series at the Sea Trawler Restaurant, 35 Fording Island Road Ext.,in Bluffton. Fee. Join the Island Recreation Center at Shelter Cove Park to enjoy the Party in the Park with entertainment by Jeff Tayler and the fi reworks. Concessions will be sold.


22ND...HARBOURFEST/FIREWORKS. 6:00 pm - 9:30 pm. HarbourFest has earned the distinction of being Shelter Cove Harbour’s signature summer event. From April through September, Shelter Cove features live entertainment seven nights a week, plus unforgettable food, arts and crafts, fi reworks and a fl urry of activity. All events at HarbourFest are free and open to the public. Fireworks serve as the centerpiece for HarbourFest. The breathtaking display lights up the sky just after dusk. Troubadour Shannon Tanner, a fi xture at HarbourFest since 1988, blends the sounds of the ‘60s with sing-alongs and his own original ballads.


23RD...GULLAH COOKING AND LIVING. 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm. Event held at the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn. Join Daufuskie Island native Sallie Ann Robinson at the Coastal Discovery Museum as she cooks a recipe from one of her cookbooks. After she fi nishes, you will sample the food and hear stories about life on Daufuskie Island. Reservations are required by calling 843-689-6767 ext 223. Fee per person and the class is held in the kitchen at the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn.


< 23RD THROUGH 30TH...THE WHO’S TOMMY. 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm. Event location at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina. 888-860-2787. FUN FOR KIDS/KIDS NIGHT OUT. MAY 22 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 7... Monday–Friday. 9 am–4 pm; 9 am–12 pm; or 1–4 pm Thursday, 6–9 pm. Join The Sea Pines Resort’s high energy, activitybased, outdoor-oriented summer day camp. Children ages 4–12 enjoy activities such as swimming, miniature golf, arts & crafts and a whole lot more. The trained, professional staff offers a safe, supervised environment. Full-day program includes morning activity, lunch and afternoon activity. Kids Night Out program includes dinner and activity. THROUGH AUGUST...COASTAL DISCOVERY MUSEUM - MAMMALS AND BIRDS OF PREY. A variety of Lowcountry animals will be on display and you can learn about their habits. Scheduled to appear from Oatland Island Wildlife Center are; barred owl, screech owl, fl ying squirrel, opossum and armadillo. Participants will have the opportunity to not only see these animals, but take photos of them as well! Fee. Reservations required. MOST MONDAYS...ROBERT TRENT JONES FREE GOLF DEMONSTRATION. 4:45 pm - 5:30 pm. ‘Where Does the Power Come From?’ Each Monday afternoon, Doug Weaver conducts a free, 45-minute golf clinic and demonstration entitled “Where Does the Power Come From?” at the Jones Golf Center. TUESDAYS...VAN DER MEER TENNIS SOCIAL ROUND ROBIN. 3:00 pm - 5:00. Come join them in a social round robin at Van Der Meer Tennis in Shipyard Plantation. THROUGH AUGUST...COASTAL DISCOVERY MUSEUM - SEA TURTLES ON HILTON HEAD. A special guided tour offered June through the end of August, is the Evening Turtle Talk and Walk. This tour is designed to give participants information about the nationally threatened species, loggerhead sea turtles. Participating in one of these programs is one of the safest ways of viewing this species and learning how to help protect this threatened species. They are protected by State and Feberal Laws, and the Museum staff is trained in the proper procedures to follow during the turtle season. Fee. Reservations required. THROUGH AUGUST...COASTAL DISCOVERY MUSEUM - AMPHIBIANS AND REPTILES. Presented by Tony Mills of the LowCountry Institute, you will learn why these intriguing animals are so important to our local habitats. Participants will get up close and personal with live snakes, turtles, lizards, alligators and other “herp” that are native to the state. At the end of the presentation, attendees will even get a chance to touch a snake and an alligator. Fee. Reservations required. THROUGH JULY 10TH...HILTON HEAD ART LEAGUE - VANTAGE POINT. Featured artist is Nancy Mitchel. The Featured Artists Showcases highlight a different Art League of Hilton Head artist each month at the Pineland Station Mall Gallery. The gallery offers works of Art League artists for sale throughout the year.


4TH...SKULL CREEK JULY 4TH CELEBRATION. 9:30 pm - 9:50 pm. FREE Community Fireworks display from a barge in the Intracoastal Waterway/Skull Creek at 9:30PM. Live outside entertainment begins at 6:00 pm at Hudson’s, Skull Creek Boathouse, and Chart House. Food and beverages available. No coolers please.


4TH...FIREWORKS AT HARBOUR TOWN. Approximately 9 pm. Join the festivities in Harbour Town for a fireworks extravaganza that will light up the sky over the famous Harbour Town Lighthouse. Complimentary.
